Seat compatibility question

I've got a 2005 Yamaha YZF-R6 and found a really nice front seat from a 2003 model on eBay. Before I spend the money, I want to be sure it will actually fit my bike. Has anyone here swapped seats between these years? I'd hate to buy it and realize it doesn't line up properly...any advice on compatibility would be awesome.

As far as I know even though there are some subtle differences between 03 and 05, there's nothing surrounding the seat, so you should be good. Maybe check the parts catalog and see which models years of the 05 seat is compatible with.

I'll dig into the parts catalog to be sure before pulling the trigger. If they share the same part number across those years, that'll give me confidence the swap will work out fine

Sounds like a great plan, @Zooro. Double-checking the part numbers is the safest move. If they match, the fit should be good. Some minor trim differences might exist, but mounting points are usually the same between ’03 and ’05.

That’s the right way to do it @Zooro. If the part numbers line up, you’re almost certainly fine, and even when they don’t it’s usually just foam or cover differences rather than the mounting.
